Why Make This Recipe

The grocery stores are designed to sell things that people will buy. They don’t sell you “how to make it yourself” because then you won’t need to keep buying the thing they are selling. We buy it because we don’t know any different. We aren’t taught how to make things from home. The grocery stores want us to depend on them because it makes them more money.

That’s why I created this blog! I am here to teach you how to be more self-sufficient, make food from scratch, depend less on the grocery stores and save money at the same time. If you think building a from scratch pantry is overwhelming, you are not alone! I am still swapping out store-bought products for homemade products, so I know how overwhelming this process can be.

If you want help getting started, I have created a FREE From Scratch Pantry Guide for you to get started without getting overwhelmed. Remember that you don’t have to do it all in one day. It is a lifelong learning process that will constantly be evolving.

How This Recipe Saves Money

This is one of the very first recipes I started making from home because when I realized how easy it was to make it, I have never bought it from the grocery store again! If you already have Garlic (or Garlic Powder), salt, onions (or onion powder), and Parsley at home, then you are spending extra money on buy those ingredients AGAIN.

If you stop buying the same ingredients twice, you are actually saving money in the long run. Yes, it’s probably more convenient to buy it pre-mixed then to mix it yourself when life gets busy. However, if you have a system, mixing your yourself is actually really easy!

Once you make it once, you don’t have to make it again until you run out. Once you do need to make more, just add the ingredients to a mason jar or container that has extra room and shake. It’s fast and easy! No need to spend extra money buying the same ingredients twice.

The Recipe

I have created this recipe in sample size so that you can make it, test it and then make it in bulk if you like it. The worst feeling is making something in bulk and then realizing you don’t like it, then tossing it out. No need to waste food or waste time trying to cut a recipe in half to test it out.

Ingredients

Instructions

  1. Add all ingredients to an airtight container.
  2. Put the lid on and shake until all ingredients are combined.

All done! Super-fast and easy!

Storing Tips

To store this seasoning, you will want to put it in an airtight container. If it gets exposed to air it will dry out and get stale. That is why an airtight container is so important! When I am stationary, I like to use this type of container for ease of use. When I am traveling and want something light weight, this is the mylar bag I use.

If you are wanting to make this seasoning in bulk and store it long term, I suggest using a mason jar or mylar jag, adding an oxygen absorber and vacuum sealing it. Getting as much air and oxygen out as possible is what will make it last much longer. Here are all my favorite long term storage tools for vacuum sealing mason jars and much more.
