Why Make This Recipe

I had heard really good things about how ginger, lemon and honey all do amazing at curing a sickness. My first thought was, why not put them all together for the best natural cure for a sickness. It started out as an experiment because I didn’t know if it would actually work or not.

I first made some for myself. It did great! I have very rarely had a sickness that lasted more than a day or two. Then all of my husband’s employees started getting sick, so I made them some to try. They all LOVED it!! That got my husband’s attention… now, when he is starting to feel sick, he asks for ginger tea. Now his sicknesses have only lasted a couple of days at most.

That’s when I started thinking “Maybe this really is working!”

Is this Really Working?

After those experiments, I started to really believe in this tea. I specifically remember going to visit my family and on the last few days that I was there, my sister ended up getting sick. I suggested that she should drink some ginger tea. They all just kind of looked at me funny. I explained how to make it and my sister said, “I’ll try anything to make this go away”.

So, I went to the store and grabbed what I needed to make the tea. She actually thought it tasted good but didn’t see any immediate difference… until the next day. She could breathe through her nose again and felt like a brand-new person. I was glad to see her feeling better again, but I had to say my goodbyes.

Shortly after my visit I started to feel like I was getting sick, so I made some ginger Tea for myself as well. Of course, the sickness didn’t last very long. The months that followed are what surprised me most!

Magical Tea

All of my family members started texted me asking for the recipe as soon as they started feeling sick. My sister actually started calling it the magical tea. When I asked why she calls it the magical tea she replies with “because it magically makes my sickness go away every single time”.

That’s when I knew I had to share this recipe with others who are looking for a natural remedy during cold and flu season.

Why This Tea Works

Ginger does a really good job of flushing out your system to get rid of any bad bacteria that is causing the sickness, lemon boosts you Vitamin C and honey sooths the throat, plus sweetens the tea.

I’m sure there are a lot of other reasons why this tea works so well but I have not gone that far down the rabbit hole. I just know it works so I keep making it.

The Recipe

This recipe is very customizable. You can use fresh ginger, dehydrated or freeze-dried ginger. Same thing with the lemon. You can use fresh or preserved lemon. You can also add or reduce the amount of ginger, lemon, water and honey to your liking. I’ll be honest, I never measured any of these ingredients until I started sharing it with others.

Ingredients

  • 2 Tbsp of Minced Ginger
  • Half of a lemon
  • Honey to taste
  • 4 Cups of Water

Instructions

  1. Mince your fresh ginger or chop about an inch of fresh ginger with a knife into small cubes. Nothing Fancy!
  2. Add your ginger and water to a medium pot.
  3. Bring it to a boil.
  4. Let it boil for about 5 to 10 minutes. (Depending on how strong you want the ginger)
  5. Once the ginger is fragrant, strain out the ginger chunks, so you just have pure liquid left.
  6. Once the ginger has been stained, add your lemon to ginger water.
  7. Give it a taste. If the ginger is too strong, you can add more water.
  8. Pour your ginger tea into a mug and add honey to sweeten your tea.
  9. Mix and Enjoy!

Notes:

  • To make this recipe quickly, you can dehydrate or Freeze dry Ginger and Lemons ahead of time. Store them in the pantry until you want some tea. Then add the ginger and the Lemons to the pot at the same time to extract all the liquid before straining.
  • If the Ginger is a little bit to strong you can add more water to mellow the ginger flavor.
  • If the ginger flavor isn’t strong enough, keep boiling to extract more ginger flavor.

Storing Tips

After you have made your ginger tea, you can serve immediately or you can store it in the fridge. This tea will last in the fridge for a couple of weeks. When storing it in the fridge, make sure it is stored in an airtight container to keep it fresh as long as possible. When you need a boost of miracle tea, just warm it back up on the stove and enjoy.
