Why Make Your Own?
It is all too easy these days to pick up a soda and drink it like its water but there are no nutritional benefits to store-bought soda. Infact, its actually really bad for us. But you probably already knew that!
So, what is the alternative? A ginger fermented and fresh fruity drink that your whole family will love! Its got the ginger (very good for you) and the fruit (also very good for you). So why haven’t you heard about it? Because to get the fermentation started, it takes lots of patients! It’s much easy to go to the store and buy a soda but so much more worth it to be able to make your own.
I’ll be here to walk you through it, every step of the way!
If you try it and get frustrated, send me a message, I’ll be happy to help.

Directions
Ginger Bug
- Start by adding 2 inches of finely cut or grated ginger (with skin on) to a mason jar.
- Add 1 Tbsp of sugar
- Add 2 Tbsp filtered water
- Put the lid on but do NOT tighten (You can also put a coffee filter over the top with a rubber band around the rim)
- Place mixture in a warm place away from direct sunlight.
- Repeat steps 1-5 for 5-7 days or until you see bubbles forming at the surface.
- Once you see bubbles forming, screw the lid on tight and continue steps 1-5 until you see a significant increase of bubbles on surface (carbonation).
Soda
Strawberry Soda
- Add 2 cups strawberries (fresh or frozen) to a saucepan
- Add 1/2 cup of Sugar
- Add 4 cups of filtered water
- Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and let it simmer for 20 minutes.
- Smash the strawberries with a potato masher to get all the juices out
- Turn off the heat, strain the liquid into a bowl (removing the pulp) and let cool completely
- Once it has cooled completely, add 1/4 cup of active Ginger Bug (carbonated)
- Add to a mason jar or swing top bottle with a loose lid until you see bubbles start to form.
- Fasten the lid tightly to let it build carbonation.
- Be sure to check it frequently releasing the air. Note: I left mine for a couple days and it sprayed the ceiling when I opened it.
- To slow down the carbonation, place in the fridge.

- To slow down the carbonation, place in the fridge.
- You can replace the strawberry flavor with any fruity drink of your choice. Make your favorite fruity drink and then add the ginger bug for the carbonated effect.
